The Grand Canal of Suzhou Section is one of the Grand Canal of Beijing and Hangzhou, and also a well-preserved section. It looks like a jade belt encircling Suzhou ancient city. Thanks to the canal, Suzhou became a paradise for for the merchants in ancient time.

There are many other famous historical sites alongside the canal, such as Suzhou Ancient City Wall, Pan Gate, Guxu Gate, etc. Suzhou government protects the canal with great efforts and measures. The ancient water town Suzhou is famous for the Grand Canal, which was built in Shui Dynasty (581- 618 A.D.). The Grand Canal is about 1794 kilometers long, starting from Hangzhou in the south to Beijing in the north, through four provinces Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Hebei and two municipality cities Tianjin and Beijing city. It is the longest and oldest canal in the world, known as the two greatest projects in Chinese history.
