Changsha Tour

Changsha locationChangsha is the capital city of Hunan Province. It is in the center of a rich agricultural region amid the Hunan plains, the Xiang River runs across Changsha from south to north. Changsha is the political, cultural, scientific, educational and business center of Hunan.

Changsha has more than 3,000-year history that dates back to the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046-771 B.C.). As early as the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.), Changsha was an important center for the Chu State to occupy the south. The lacquerware and silk textiles discovered in 1972 from Mawangdui - a Western Han (2nd century BC) tomb at Changsha are an indication of the richness of local craft traditions.

Mao Zedong, founder of the People's Republic of China, was born in nearby Shaoshan. He spent 5 years in Changsha attending school and later became principal of the very school he had attended - a position he would hold for 2 years while launching his political career.
